FIDA Condemns Increase In Rape Cases

The International
Federation of Women Lawyers,  otherwise called FIDA, has decried the increase of rape cases in the society.
The FIDA Country Vice Chairperson, Barr I. Aguma made this assertion while speaking during a programme organised by the Couples and Lawyers Fellowship of the First Baptist Church, Aggrey Road, held at the church auditorium in Port Harcourt over the weekend with the theme “Contemporary issues in the Family: Fertility, Adoption and Violence”.
Barrister I. Aguma stated that cases of rape especially, the insane sex violence, was on the increase across the society adding that members of FIDA were committed to ensure that culprits were brought to justice.
She averred that the association had embarked on vigorous campaign in order to create awareness in the society especially in Rivers State and urged the Christian community to join in the crusade.
“Rape is increasing, and defilement  also. Insane sex is also on its increase in our society. We have cases of men who have violated their children; female mutilation is still going on in the state especially, in Abua/Odual LGA. This is also violence”, she stated.
The wife of the State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice averred that adoption and violence have become a front burning issue in various families and homes adding that violence at home occurred both in physical and psychological forms.
According to her, violence can be avoided through effective communication.
